When an injury occurs, scar tissue may form between muscles, tendons, nerves and ligaments limiting range of motion and function. This leads to chronic and acute injuries. By breaking up scar tissue and releasing these adhesions, proper function is restored.
Specifically designed stretches and exercises are used to compliment manual therapy techniques. The goal of the rehab program is to teach the patient how to become their own therapist. By managing their own care, patients can reduce clinic visits and manage pain between visits.
Our clinicians are innovators in the use of pre- and post- surgical rehabilitation methods to shorten your recovery time.
The Graston technique, otherwise known as IASTM or SASTM is an innovative, evidence-based form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization. The tools developed by David Graston enable the clinician to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions in order to facilitate healing and remodelling. Adhesions within the soft tissue may develop as a result of surgery, immobilization, repeated strain or other mechanisms. Using the Graston technique, these adhesions are broken down allowing for full functional restoration to occur. These tools are also used in the treatment of tendonitis, reduction of post-surgical scarring, regaining range of motion after total knee and hip replacements, carpal tunnel, ITB syndrome, non-acute bursitis and anywhere there is soft tissue restrictions. Furthermore, the Graston technique enhances results from exercise and joint mobilization and thus pairs well with conventional physiotherapy.
Using various osteopathic techniques, we are able to correct disturbances in the musculoskeletal system that are known to affect the body and cause a wide range of disorders.
Our manual therapy techniques and specially designed exercise programs have proven to be extremely helpful in relieving discomfort and improving quality of life for those suffering from chronic pain. Even in incurable cases, treatment can help alleviate chronic pain.
Disruption in the sensors of the feet, eyes, jaw and skin can lead to chronic and acute injuries. By reprogramming all or one of these out of tune sensors, our posturologist can identify, correct and prevent further injuries.
Podiatry is a scientifically derived therapy designed to treat several medical conditions related to your feet. At the Sports Performance Centre, treatments are performed at the musculoskeletal level because our podiatrist has specifically developed his practice around the biomechanics of sports. Most consultations allow us to establish the link between foot positioning and the overall posture of the human body.
Acupuncture is one of the treatment modalities of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It presupposes the existence of a vital energy, or "Qi" that is essential to life and that flows throughout the body. This energy is transported by a system of channels called meridians or pathways that enable a connection between the outer and inner aspects of our bodies.
Acupuncture points are found along these meridians. These points, mapped and documented for thousands of years by the Chinese and Asian societies, have their own characteristics and indications.
During treatment, a combination of select points are stimulated in order to have an effect on a determined bodily organ, area or function and target varied symptoms and/or on the initial cause of the imbalance.
Acupuncture has had an impact on many of the body’s systems including digestive, respiratory, circulatory and urinary. It also has been used successfully for dermatological issues, allergies and pain management.
SPC’s experienced strength and conditioning coaches specialize in training the injured as well as the “weekend warrior” and professional athlete. Our facility also lends itself to individual sessions or small groups.
It is SPC’s Mission to warmly welcome clients and ease them back into their healthy living lifestyles. Applying various manual therapy techniques, our team of healthcare practitioners complement each other with their diverse backgrounds and therapeutic specializations. We integrate therapy with customized rehab exercise programs to achieve remarkable results for our clients.
Our therapists have perfected their skills to go beyond typical diagnoses and treatments of sprains, strains and other injuries. We are specialists in locating the exact tissue(s) lying at the root of the problem and in applying advanced manual therapy techniques to restore wellness.
SPC’s philosophy is that practitioners work together as a team to get the most effective results.
Manual therapists use physiotherapy, podiatry, osteopathy and soft tissue techniques to restore normal function to the injured area. At the same time, exercise rehab specialists utilize postural evaluation, corrective and performance enhancement exercises and scientifically developed stretching protocols to ensure long lasting results.
